Project ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING

 

Free form fabricated implant materials – Biological mechanisms and optimization of tissue response by pore structure and surface modification.
The aim of this project is to use electron beam melting (EBM), an additive manufacturing (AM) technology, as a platform for systematic variation of implant designs, including complex shaped integrated porous networks. The role of pore size and distribution, strut surface morphology and bulk material, for bone regeneration and osseointegration are key challenges. State-of-the-art analytical techniques are applied to probe the structural arrangement, molecular composition and morphology of the bone ingrowth in different implant geometries and surface morphologies.
