Project NANO

 

Nanofabricated model surfaces with systematically varied surface topography.
The project is aiming to develop a technology platform for producing surfaces with well-defined nanosized structures and to investigate their effects on bone cells and tissues. The platform is based on colloidal lithography which, in contrast to many other nanopatterning techniques, is applicable not only to flat and smooth surfaces but also to complex 3-dimensional surfaces, such as rough, screw- shaped dental implants. The nanopatterned surfaces can be used both as model surfaces for fundamental biointerface research as well as novel biocompatible surfaces applicable to implants and prostheses. The approach will improve the understanding and predictability of how nanoscale surface properties of engineered materials influence biological systems.
